Utsuroi (oo-tsu-ro-ee) - A quiet passage of time. - MIKA

Utsuroi (oo-tsu-ro-ee) - A quiet passage of time.

Utsuroi is a Japanese word that describes the quiet passage of time —
the subtle shifts of seasons, light, and atmosphere.

These gentle changes inspire the forms, textures, and colors of our ceramics.

Philosophy

Beautiful scenes are always around us.
The moments when we notice their beauty
are often when our hearts are calm and at ease.

The colours of Utsuroi
are inspired by those quiet moments.

Utsuroi ceramics are created to accompany everyday moments —
meals, tea, and the quiet rhythms of daily life.

They become part of the table, sharing in the small moments
that make each day meaningful.

Designed and handmade in our Toronto studio by potter
Satoshi Yoshikawa,
each piece is made to live naturally alongside the people who use it.

Tableware

Utsuroi ceramics are created to be part of the table —
shared meals, tea, and everyday moments.

A bowl, a cup, or a small plate may seem simple, yet these pieces quietly shape the atmosphere of a meal.

The warmth of clay, the texture of the surface, and the way light rests on the glaze all become part of the experience of eating and drinking.

Through everyday use, the pieces gradually become familiar companions at the table.
